OUR VISION IS A WORLD
WHO WE ARE
Like many startups, the Equal Opportunity Community Initiative was born out of a sense that there is a better way of doing things.
We got our start in December 2009 with a desire to build a world where children have equal opportunities to reach their dreams. Our philosophy from day one is to avoid large overhead costs and channel 100% of contributions to those who need it most.
Since the Equal Opportunity Community Initiative’s inception, we have been engaging in hands-on work at the grassroots level, giving us first-hand experience and knowledge of the need for both capacity-building and training programs. Working with like-minded individuals and organizations around the globe has given us valuable international and cross-cultural experience. Transparency and the 100% model have earned us the confidence of our local partners, and helped us build a large network of trusting relationships that are truly second to none.
Today, our organization has grown from the four original founders to include more than 5,000 volunteers helping over 250,000 underprivileged children in communities around the world.
WHERE WE ARE
The Equal Opportunity Community Initiative is headquartered in Toronto.
Based in the largest city in Canada, and the most multicultural city in the world, we are ideally located to experience diverse social needs, benefit from world-class expertise and offer support to all our ongoing charitable initiatives in Canada and around the world.

HOW we do it
We believe that children not only deserve but need respect and dignity if they are to flourish in this world.
The programs and activities we offer help the most vulnerable kids in our communities feel like they matter in ways that society at large often fails to do. The sense of belonging they receive empowers them to move through the world with confidence, attain upward social mobility and make positive impacts on the world we share.
We owe it to ourselves as much as to these children to work with determination and passion to eradicate poverty, provide education and improve everyone’s living conditions.
HOW we do it
Our investments in child and youth development are grouped into five major areas:
- Creating and enhancing learning spaces to accommodate 21st-century pedagogic approaches and cultivate a love of lifelong learning.
- Providing relevant training courses in an inclusive environment to account for diverse social needs.
- Generating a sense of belonging and community spirit through therapeutic art activities and organized athletic events.
- Fostering improvement of economic conditions to generate upward social mobility.
- Coordinating the distribution of in-kind donations to meet basic daily needs.
Capacity-building translates into: investing in the creation and support of educational development centres, libraries and computer labs; developing specialized ongoing training programs and services to cultivate transferable skills and drive social transformation; and connecting aid with families to help them meet their essential life needs. We believe that respect and equal treatment empower program participants to gain critical competencies, realize their full potential and improve their wellbeing.
